We just couldn't believe the weather on Sunday - it actually felt like summer. This was quite handy as it just happened to be the day of the annual family barbecue. I had suggested that it would be a great idea to follow the successful formula followed by the Olympics, World Cups etc. and hold it every four years. Like most of my ideas this one also fell on deaf ears, no harm in trying!
So - we got the weather, with plenty to eat and drink there was bound to be a full family attendance (three daughters and son, plus son-in-laws and sons partner, ten grandchildren, four of whom have a plus one and five great-grandchildren, and numbers - and cost start rising) the day was set for some fun.

The plan, as at every barbecue is to stand me in front of the blessed thing, with a pack of burgers and expect me to cook. Last year it was kebabs, now I'm not being funny, but would anyone else not be surprised if lumps of meat stuck on wooden skewers caught fire - exactly! And I still got the blame. This year I was a little more subtle, looking very sorry for myself when the first son-in-law walked past - gullible aren't they!
I'll be giving the swing ball a wide berth after last year, when my son lured me in closer with some soft shots, then belted one - hitting me right in the middle of the forehead, poleaxing me, much to everyone's amusement. A great day eventually ended, but no rest for the wicked - we've now got to start saving up for Christmas!
